to this site and other news about the Gibson Brothers. 1/09 · The Gibson Brothers have signed with Compass Records. Eric and Leigh bring "fancy picking" (The Washington Post) and "the toughest and tightest harmonies this side of hillbilly heaven" (Dave Higgs, Bluegrass Breakdown) to the Compass bluegrass roster, along with a (yet to be titled) album due for release in the spring of 2009. Produced by the two brothers plus bassist Mike Barber, the new album features six originals and new songs by Shawn Camp/Paul Kennerly, Chet O'Keefe, Joe Newberry, and Marshall Warwick, and a relatively obscure Tom Petty song, "Angel Dream." Recorded at the Compass Sound Studio in just six days, the players include The Gibson Brothers’ road band (Mike Barber, bass, Clayton Campbell, fiddle, and Joe Walsh, mandolin) and guest resonator guitarist Mike Witcher (Missy Raines & The New Hip). "I was proud to look at ol' Waylon on the wall, knowing that he did his songs his own way with his own band in the very space we were recording," Eric says. 11/08 · The Gibsons are pleased to announce that mandolinist Joe Walsh has joined their band. Originally from Duluth, MN and now residing in Portland, ME, Joe was the first mandolin student at the Berklee College of Music. Joe's first show with the Gibson Brothers will be at the New Year's Bluegrass Festival in Jeckyll Island, GA. 9/08 · Iron & Diamonds has reached #1 on the Albums Chart in the October issue of Bluegrass Unlimited. It is the Gibson's fourth consecutive chart-topping release. "Cabin Down Below" has also hit #1, on XM Radio's Bluegrass Junction Top Tracks. 4/08 · Iron & Diamonds debuts at #5 on Billboard's Bluegrass chart in the album's first week of release. 10/07 · The Gibson Brothers have finished recording their new album! Tentatively titled Iron and Diamonds, their latest Sugar Hill Records release should be available in March 2008. The project boasts seven new GB originals and covers of songs by Roger Miller, Steve Earle, Tom Petty, Julie Miller, and Bill Carlisle. Produced by Eric, Leigh, and long-time bassist Mike Barber, the album was recorded at The Sound Emporium in Nashville, TN, in September and at Chas Eller Studios in Charlotte, VT, in October. Joining Eric (vocals, banjo, guitar), Leigh (vocals, guitar), and Mike (upright bass) are bandmates Clayton Campbell (fiddle) and Rick Hayes (mandolin), and guests Junior Barber (Dobro and Weissenborn guitar) and sister Erin LaClair (vocals). 4/07 · Candi Sawyer's 2007 Bluegrass Guide features an in-depth article on the Gibson Brothers by Rick Lang. The guide is available at www.bluegrassguide.com. 12/06 · Red Letter Day has been nominated for SPBGMA Album of the Year. The title track has been nominated for Song of the Year. Winners will be announced at SPBGMA's 33rd Annual Bluegrass Music Awards in Nashville on February 3, 2007. 11/06 · Red Letter Day has been named Album of the Year by the reviewers of Bluegrass Now. 7/06 · Red Letter Day has reached #1 on the Albums Chart in the July issue of Bluegrass Unlimited. Red Letter Day is the Gibsons' third consecutive release to top the chart, following Bona Fide (2003) and Long Way Back Home (2004). 5/06 · Eric and Leigh are featured on the cover of this month's Bluegrass Unlimited. Red Letter Day sits at #2 on BU's Top 15 Bluegrass Albums Chart, and two songs from the album are among the Top 30 Songs: "Red Letter Day" at #10 and "One Raindrop" at #27. 2/06 · The Gibson Brothers' new Sugar Hill Records release, Red Letter Day, is off to a great start, reaching #5 on Billboard's Bluegrass Chart in its second week and #9 on R&R's Americana Chart as of last week. The band recently toured from New York to Texas and back in a three and a half week span, playing shows and in-stores and showcasing at Folk Alliance in Austin, TX. The GBs also participated in a good deal of radio promotion and press. Sandwiched in between the touring, the brothers filmed their first video in Nashville. "I Got A Woman" is currently in the editing stage and should be available soon. 9/05 · The Gibson Brothers' next CD, Red Letter Day, will be released on Sugar Hill Records on January 24, 2006. Co-produced by Eric, Leigh, and Mike Barber, Red Letter Day boasts 15 songs: five originals and songs by Kieran Kane, Chris Knight, Bruce Robison, Ray Charles, and more. Guests include Jason Carter, Ronnie McCoury, Andrea Zonn, Marc MacGlashan, Sam Zucchini, and Russ Pahl. 1/05 · Eric and Leigh will be honored as the youngest-ever Plattsburgh State University Distinguished Visiting Alumi during Spring Opening Week, January 26-27. 1/05 · Fiddler Clayton Campbell, from Benton, KY, and Cincinnatian Rick Hayes, on mandolin, have joined the Gibsons' band. 12/04 · Long Way Back Home has occupied the #1 spot on Bluegrass Unlimited's Top 15 Bluegrass Albums Chart for four straight months. "Mountain Song" is in the second spot on BU's Top 30 Songs, and "Ophelia" is #10. 8/04 · "That Bluegrass Music," from Bona Fide, has been nominated for the IBMA Song of the Year. 7/04 · Another new release: Alyssa Marie MacGlashan was born July 28th. Congratulations, Marc and Angie! 6/04 · Leigh and Alison Gibson are the proud parents of a newborn baby boy, John Malcolm. Dad reports that Jack has very long fingers. 3/04 · The Gibson Brothers are featured in the March cover story of Bluegrass Now. 1/04 · "The Lighthouse" is #1 on Bluegrass Now's January edition of "The Gospel Truths," an accurate account of the most popular bluegrass gospel songs in the nation as reported by bluegrass DJs. This song, from Bona Fide, is sister Erin Gibson's first-ever recording! 12/03 · Eric and Leigh have just wrapped up their latest project on Sugar Hill Records. Tentatively titled Long Way Back Home, the CD is slated for a March '04 release. The album was recorded in Nashville at the Sound Emporium (the same great studio as Bona Fide), and along with bandmates Mike Barber (upright bass) and Marc MacGlashan (mandolin), it includes guest appearances by Luke Bulla, Jason Carter, Rob Ickes, Russ Pahl, Sam Zucchini, and Alan Bartram. The disc consists of seven originals, along with covers of songs by Kieran Kane, Gordon Lightfoot, The Louvin Brothers, Robbie Robertson, and Chris Jones. 8/03 · Bona Fide is #1 on Bluegrass Unlimited's Top 15 Bluegrass Albums Chart, a national bluegrass survey based on airplay. In addition, "That Bluegrass Music" ranks #4 and "The Open Road" #21 on the BU singles chart. 3/03 · The Gibson Brothers' new CD, Bona Fide, has been released by Sugar Hill Records. The album contains thirteen songs, nine of which are originals. Along with bandmates Mike Barber (stand-up bass) and Marc MacGlashan (mandolin), Eric and Leigh are joined by guests Luke Bulla, Jason Carter, Erin Gibson, Tom T. Hall, Jeff Taylor, and Sam Zucchini. The project was recorded at The Sound Emporium, Studio A in Nashville, TN. 11/02 · The Gibson Brothers have completed their debut Sugar Hill recording, scheduled for a March 2003 release. 9/02 · The Gibson Brothers have signed with roots music giant Sugar Hill Records of Durham, NC. Look for the Gibsons' debut Sugar Hill release in early 2003. 1/02 · The Gibson Brothers are pleased to announce that mandolinist/fiddler Marc MacGlashan has joined their bluegrass band. A native of Maryland, Marc now lives in the Nashville area. The winner of the 1996 MerleFest mandolin contest, Marc has worked with Gary Ferguson, Dede Wyland, Nancy Moore, and others. 7/01 · Eric and Leigh recently wrote with Nashville songwriting ace Bob DiPiero. Bob has had hits recorded by artists such as Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, George Strait, John Anderson, Reba McEntire, Diamond Rio, Pam Tillis, The Oak Ridge Boys, and many more. Joining them were Ricky Skaggs on guitars and mandolin, Lloyd Green on pedal steel, Mark Fain on bass, Pat Flynn on acoustic guitar, Luke Bulla on fiddle, John Hammond on drums, and Jeff Parker on accordion. 6/99 · "She Paints a Picture" occupies the #4 spot on Bluegrass Unlimited's June singles chart. 4/99 · In the Second Annual Fans' Choice Awards, readers of Bluegrass Now have selected the Gibson Brothers as the Emerging Artist of the Year for 1998. 4/99 · Another Night Of Waiting has now been on the Bluegrass Unlimited Top Fifteen Airplay chart for eight months. "She Paints A Picture" is currently at #7 on the singles chart. 1/99 · The January issue of Bluegrass Now features the Gibsons in a cover article. 1/99 · "Picture In The Moonlight," from the album Spread Your Wings, finished 1998 in the #17 spot on the Bluegrass Unlimited singles chart. "She Paints A Picture," from the Gibson Brothers' new release, Another Night Of Waiting, was the #37 song for the year. 10/98 · The Gibsons have been named the 1998 IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year. |
